We are thrilled to announce the third edition of our Classical Intensive programme, presented in collaboration with our friends at the British Council in Sri Lanka.
Since its inception in 2019, the AKC Classical Intensive has been a cornerstone of Akram’s mission to honour and expand classical forms by placing them within a contemporary context. This year’s practice will be centred around the form of Bharatanatyam, a form deeply intertwined with Jaffna’s cultural heritage.
This year’s programme will be led by our Creative Associate Mavin Khoo, who will guide the 32 invited participants through an inspiring and rigorous creative journey. Enhancing their practice will be live music from Jaffna-based Carnatic vocalist Jude Sivanganasundaram and mridangam artist Lohendran Mahendran, rooting the experience in the region’s musical traditions.
Stay tuned. We look forward to sharing snippets of their journey with you.
