This year, the AKC Summer Intensive returned for its third edition from 15-20 August. We came together with Theatre and dance NI, Northern Ireland’s leading support organisation for Theatre and Dance, and the MAC Belfast, the cultural hub and beacon for the ongoing regeneration of the city, to host the Intensive in their award-winning venue in Belfast’s Cathedral Quarter.
The week was a 6-day immersive training programme expanding into a choreographic lab, welcoming three choreographers to R&D ideas and processes with participants in the studio as part of their artistic journey. Under the direction and mentorship of Akram Khan and Mavin Khoo, and our associate artist Joy Alpuetro Ritter, participants received a unique opportunity to challenge their own practice, immerse themselves in a creative process, broaden their artistic horizons and further their training and experience of R&D with Akram and the invited choreographers.
AKC invited AKC artistic collaborators Joy Alpuerto Ritter and Hannes Langolf to curate the cohort of choreographers. The invited Summer Intensive choreographers were Carlos Aller, Alethia Antonia and Liam Francis.
