Lohendran Nathamani Mahendran

Lohendran Nathamani Mahendran is the youngest son of Dr. C. Mahendran, Sri Lanka’s renowned mridangam virtuoso and former Senior Lecturer at Jaffna University’s Music Department. He received BA and MA degrees in Music from Annamalai University in India and his MPhil from Tamil University, Thanjavur.

He has accompanied leading musicians and dancers, particularly in musical dramas (Isai Nadakam). Additionally, he has demonstrated his exceptional mridangam skills by accompanying final-year students at the University of Jaffna, participating in NCOMS Kalavithar performances and performing at Tamil Day competitions.

Nathamani’s talent extends beyond mridangam to dance jathis (jathikorvais). He has participated in music and dance concerts across Tamil Nadu, Delhi and prestigious events such as the World Hindu Conference and the World Yoga Conference.

He has also performed in events organised by All India Radio Podhigai, Vijay Super TV and Margali Utsavam organised by the Indian High Commission of Sri Lanka. For the past seven years, he has participated in the prestigious Thyagaraja Utsavam, providing instrumental music on the mridangam, kanjira and morsing. Additionally, he has performed at renowned Natyanjali festivals in Chidambaram, Mayavaram, Kumbakonam, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Tiruvaiyaru and Bandanainallur.

On September 20, 2011, Nathamani participated in “Chevvisaimalai” with famous musicians in Sri Lanka at Nallur Nadaraja Parameshwari Hall in Jaffna. Besides mridangam, he has shown excellence in other instruments like the ghatam, morsing, and kanjira.

He holds titles such as Isai Vaaruthi, Layagana Vithakar, Mridanga Nathamani, Illankalaigar and others.
