Blue Pieta

Dramaturge

Blue Pieta is an artist, writer, director and dramaturg based in the UK. They explore themes of mysticism, the absurd and mythology, merging practices of ancient storytelling with contemporary expression. They foreground the epistemologies of the Global South to invoke a ‘New Surrealism’ rooted in ancestral, ecological and pre-colonial world views.

They are the dramaturg for Akram Khan Company’s production Thikra: Night of Remembering (2025), a collaboration with visual artist Manal Al Dowayan. They were the dramaturg for Nine Songs, directed by Farooq Chaudry OBE with musical direction from Jocelyn Pook, which premiered in Wadi Al Fann (2022).

Blue regularly collaborates with T.S. Eliot prize-winning poet Bhanu Kapil, staging her poetry through dance, theatre and music. Blue’s work has been featured in exhibition programming by Serpentine Galleries, Courtauld Gallery, Britten Pears Arts, and staged at The Place, Royal Court Theatre and Horse Hospital London, among others. They studied History of Art at the University of Cambridge and Fine Art at Central Saint Martins.
