Bilal Allaf is an interpretive dancer rooted in modern ballet and contemporary dance who uses his body to tell stories and convey emotion. Working across film and photography, he uses photographic compositions and cinematic sequences to create poetic dance works that resonate with the heart over the mind. Unrestricted by performance genres, concepts, places, tools, or techniques, Allaf draws inspiration from personal, cultural and historical narratives. His practice involves studying the body’s intuitive and habitual movements, as well as its more refined and progressive potentials. He delves into the connections between motion and emotion, and the interplay between bodies and space. Growing up with challenges in finding a sense of belonging, he developed a deep interest in connection. He examines both personal and collective narratives to explore contrasts and highlight common ground within our broader collective story.
